I am pleased to have joined Sankalp ( shaking hands ) for volunteering in India. The welcoming was nice and all looked after for a pleasant stay. I joined the street children program where we taught math and english each day with a great bunch of children. The organisation welcomed activities i had to offer and am greatfull for the help in facilitating them to happen. The work times are half days which leaves much enough time for visiting and doing own activities, making a good combination of work and travel. The residence is very safe, rooms and food all good with living room area to relax and meet other volunteers. Enjoyed very much the people working with the program, Punima great cook and person, Asha at the school kind and helpfull, learning hindi with the drivers in the mornings... Memories of the children will always remain, the coordinators Amita and Pranay are very nice and are there for any queries or help for best of stay. The location Jaïpur itself has much to be seen all over. Thank you all for a memorable stay..

This was my first big travel experience on my own. My parents were a little worried at first but as soon as I arrived at the house and emailed them that the pickup at the airport, the hotel and the drive to jaipur all went very smoothly and there was upwards of twenty volunteers in the house they realized I was going to be very safe and have a great time! That is exactly what happened. The house is beautiful, in a gated community where you always feel safe. Lunch and Dinner are great and the cook is lovely. Amita and Pranay the couple who run this organization are kind and always would fix something if it wasnt right and offered us advice on travel and anything else. I worked at the Goverment Run School, teaching english, which was a great experience. At times it was a little hard to handle, with so many kids but I am really glad I did this program. I think all the programs Sankalp seem wonderful to experience working at. I was on the work and travel trip and it was amazing! it is wonderfully put together and worth doing. The Taj Majal was great, as well as Pushkar and especially riding a camel and sleeping in the dessert. I researched a lot of programs before choosing sankalp and I am very happy with my choice. I was skeptical at first cause it was a lot cheaper than some of the other programs i saw. This is because Amita and Pranay are not trying to rip you off, they just want to make a difference and help people. The trip is worth every penny because you do and see so much. I strongly advise you to choose this program because you will not forget it :)

I have always wanted to travel to India and volunteer so when I finally decided to do it I spent a lot of time researching organisation after organisation to find the right fit. I was looking for a good variety of program/volunteer work choices, good and safe location and good value for money. Sankalp (Shake Hands India Volunteer) ticked all these boxes and seemed too good to be true. I sent many emails to Sankalp prior to booking and arriving and they always replied back within hours and answered all my questions. I decided to participate in the Work and Travel program option. On weekdays I work on the Street Kids program, teaching english and maths to children who live on the street and are the poorest of the poor here in Jaipur. They are the most adorable kids you'll ever meet. They are so clever and so eager to learn. The organisation provide all transport to and from work. On weekends I travel with a group of people from the volunteer house. I visited Agra and the Taj Mahal, Pushkar, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Ranthambore, went on a Tiger Safari and best of all went on a Camel Safari in the Desert where we slept under the stars on the sand dunes. Incredible. We are transported by lovely drivers in private air conditioned cars and mini buses and stay in beautiful hotels. I am here at a busy time with the house having twenty volunteers at the moment. The house is beautiful and very big, it's always clean and cool with western style toilets, hot water and internet at cheap prices and is situated in a nice and safe neighbourhood close to supermarkets and a short rickshaw ride to the city center. I was here for Holi festival and the Jaipur elephant festival which were so much fun. Punni, the cook and house mum as we refer to her, cooks the volunteers delicious lunches and dinners everyday which isn't spicy at all which is good for those like me who can't handle it (but their is always chilli available for those who do). Amita and Pranay, the couple who run the organisation, are lovely and always willing to answer your questions and help with your problems. On the rare occasion that we have a problem they fix it straight away. They make sure that we are happy and safe without being over bearing and controlling which is nice. We have curfew at 10pm but this is purely for your safety and I think reasonable. They have good hearts and genuinely care about their volunteers, children and the success of the programs. They look after Puuni, even giving her $200 and a gift out of the kindess of their heart when she went to her sisters wedding. Like all indian people, they are quiet and keep to themselves at first but once you get their trust they are very welcoming and friendly people. If you are approachable and open minded they will be the same. As long as you have an open mind and don't expect everything to be like at home you'll love India. I have volunteered in many parts of the world with many different organisations and this is by far the best i've experienced for overall value for money, programs and location. I have given it a high score but I think it is deserved, the small issues that are present are already being addressed by the organisation. I cannot recommend this organisation and program more highly, I will recommend it to all my friends and hope to return one day. You will not regret coming here.

I stayed in Jaipur for three weeks to teach English and had a great experience doing this. The kids are great, the volunteer house is in a safe and good place with very good food! There are also lots of things to see and do, next to the volunteerwork. Thanks for the opportunity, very memorable!

I love my experience with this organisation. The home was in a safe part of Jaipur. I worked with streets kids and I loved it because the childrens are amazing and smart. Im gonna miss them so much. I really thing that this program make a difference in their life. For the travel part, I enjoyed each moment of the trip. I mean we did pretty much everything that I wanted to see in the Rajasthan. We went to Pushkar, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Agra and Ranthambore. Each destination has a charm and I liked pretty much all. I will definitely recommand it to my friends and maybe im gonna come back!
