Prior to starting this two week journey, I had formed ideas on what to expect and what someone travelling from America may perceive as “challenges”.However what I had not anticipated was the overwhelming hospitality and genuine care for/towards volunteers. Franklin, Wisdom, Doris and Josephine were hands down the most incredible team one could ask for. They constantly were concerned with our needs being met and if we have everything we needed. One comment I will make which is out of control of our wonderful team , I feel the travel agency should make potential travellers more aware that there will not be running water. This is for the sole purpose of preparation.
The tours Franklin took us on were absolutely fantastic. We were able to see historical pieces of Ghana’s history as well as history of mankind. They were fun, enjoyable and educational. The volunteer placement at countryside was a unique experience. I had hoped to be more involved with the orphans in some way, but the experience was still productive.

I have had a great experience. As far as rustic travel is concerned, you have provided better housing than I expected. The staff(which is now family) could not have been kinder or more helpful. I hope to visit them again. I enjoyed our travel through the country. It was educational and relaxing and it gave us a great view of this beautiful country. Overall, the service provided was better than expected

The staff was amazing and very hospitable. The house was clean and food was great. Doris the house mum is the hardest working woman I have ever met. Countryside(my placement) needs resources. They should be specific about what they need volunteers to do. The tours were great. Very enjoyable. Overall great experience. Thanks so much to Franklin, Wisdom,Doris and Josephine

My experience has surpassed my expectations for both myself and my nine students. The lodging staff and country coordinator were kind and committed to making sure we had a great experience.
My volunteer placement was enriching and welcoming. I felt I was able to make a real impact at the Marvellous school and I felt respected. The headmaster was willing to give me and my students a range of experience with different grades.
Our recreational trips also met my expectations. We were able to visit social service agencies in Accra in line with the purpose of this class trip. We also enjoyed our trip to Cape Coast.
At this point in time I do not have and feedback for improvement. I plan to use Rustic Volunteer for any further travel abroad classes that I teach.

I spent 2-months in Xela, Guatemala, living with a host family. I did the medical, volunteer project so I spent the weekdays in a small, local clinic. I loved my host family and plan on staying in touch with them. I felt very safe, being a girl in my 20s, and definitely recommend this location to others. The city and the people were absolutely beautiful. I enjoyed the food and clean drinking water was easily accessible. I had an intermediate level of spanish so I took 4 or 5 spanish classes, 2 hours each, which I found very helpful. The classes were one on one and my teachers were great. My in-country volunteer coordinators were very helpful as well with adapting me to the culture and with getting around the city and even the country for weekend trips. I hope to go back and visit Xela again in the future.
