When I first started my research and found out about NGO Abroad I thought I would fill out the application and never hear anything back. To my surprise I got an immediate response a week or two later from Ann ready to answer any questions or concerns I may have. We talked about my interests in photography and videography and how it would be a wonderful experience to visit Sierra Leone, Africa to document the hope and the positive aspects of life in country. After doing some thinking and research I decided to give NGO Abroad a shot because Ann seemed down to earth and extremely well rounded when it came to NGO work.
For about 4 months Ann and I spoke on the phone and exchanged emails regularly concerning the details of the trip and basically ANY questions I had about any topic relating to my journey. I can honestly say I have never felt so comfortable preparing for a trip in my entire life, Ann and Mary Ellen were 110% committed and helpful to ensure my trip was a complete success. Now, I am set to leave for Sierra Leone in 3 days and am ready to live first hand the trip that so many wonderful people helped make a reality. I would recommend NGO Abroad to anyone who wants to travel the world and have the backing of the best staff and people in the business.

NGO Abroad has helped my husband and I find our path within the international development field. We have volunteer for 4 months in Nepal in a grassroots project. Our experience was challenging but extremelly rewarding. Ann and MaryAllen has helped us prepare ourselves to overcome our biggest physical and mental challenges. Ann is straigh foward and down to business kind of person. We now continue to work with our organization from home, which goes to show we have truly made a breakthrough. If you are looking to make a realistic change in your life and in the life of others, then this is the right path for you!

I used NGOAbroad in 2010 when I was looking to use my professional degree abroad. I was very satisfied with the experience. Like everyone I was skeptical about paying, but it definitely has paid for itself.
I had several long phone conversations with staff and together we made a plan for what I needed to bolster my resume.
I told them where I wanted to volunteer (a specific African country)and they found a 3 month placement for me that really suited my skills and geographical preferences.
I worked for this small NGO for 3 months and really enjoyed it. In the course of working there I made a lof of contacts, one of whom eventually offered me a job with a UN agency. Another volunteer who was with me also found paid employment at the end of her volunteer stint.
I think this organization would suit people who are career-oriented and pretty serious. Humanitarian/development work is often difficult physically and emotionally, so people who need a lot of hand-holding or flattery might not like the advice they receive. But, for people who really want to break into the field, it is definitely money well spent. Yes, you can probably find somewhere to volunteer on your own, but it will probably not be very connected to what your specific skills are.

NGOAbroad helped me achieve my lifelong goal of working with grassroots NGOs in Sub-Saharan Africa. They were able to match my skills to the needs of the organization. The connections I made abroad will last a lifetime. My experience allowed me to shift my career focus and has helped me realize my dream of working in the international humanitarian sector.

Last year I traveled with NGOabroad and it was nothing but fantastic! From the very start, Ann was very informative and gave me the necessary information about different countries to help me decide where to go. Her devotion to NGOabroad is evident as she wanted to make sure that I was going to a country where my needs and desires could be met, while also helping children in need. I volunteered for two weeks with my sister and we enjoyed every minute of it. We are one day hoping to do it again!
