Global Leadership Adventures (GLA)

My GLA experience was absoloutely incredible. It changed so much for me for the better and I am definitely looking forward to doing another program with Global Leadership Adventures. The program has made me so much more mature and independent. From traveling halfway across the world alone to staying in a different country with people I have never met, I felt confident the entire time. During the week we would teach English and do service at the Primary school which was incredible because I made friends with so many 3rd graders who we didnt have a mutual language and we still all became very close. When we weren’t doing work/teaching at the school we were learning about the culture in tanzania as well as the history and real situations that were going on. We got to meet and visit with families from the local town and got to have a real experience with the people who really lived there. I understand the difference between being a tourist and really living in the culture and I never want to be a tourist in another place again!

Global Leadership Adventures (GLA)

This was one of the best experiences of my entire life. It helped with both my growth as a person, a leader, and as a friend. Growing up I always wanted to travel and see the world and even help in out in my own way. Global Leadership Adventures made all of these things possible. From the second I touched down in San José to the second I left I felt welcomed, included, and important for the first time in a long time. We did so much community service that could change a lot of the townspeople's lives for a long time. While I was there, my group helped out at a local tree nursery, we built a scale model of a baby humpback whale completely out of plastic water bottle and we even did a couple of beach cleanups in the local marine park. That's not all we did while in Costa Rica. We also went on a bunch of adventures. We went zip lining, surfing, hiking, and we even took a day trip to Corcovado national park on the Osa Peninsula. I would definitely recommend either this or any trip that GLA has to offer. The mentors were so helpful at every activity, they were definitely a big part of why my trip was so enjoyable. The food was amazing and our home base was so beautiful. Every aspect of my trip was incredible and I fully recommend trying a service trip abroad. I know for a fact I will be going on another one very soon.

Global Vision International (GVI)

I was recently involved with GVI on their under 18s program in Thailand. During my time there, we held a fun fair at the nearby Ban Nam Khem school. It was great to see all of the small Thai kids running around and having a ball. I reminded me that happiness can be so simple, even something as small as a bit of face paint can make a child’s day. Our stall, called ‘Splat the rat’ was almost impossible! Essentially, we had a few decorated PVC pipes which we would hold vertically and put a ball in the top end for the children to hit with a plastic bat when it came out of the bottom. We saw child after child after child fail to hit the ball! In well over 200 attempts I reckon only 4 or 5 children actually managed to hit the ball in one swing! One of the funniest moments was when a small girl took a huge swing with the bat and ended up smacking a massive teenage boy between his legs! He doubled over in pain and she just laughed hysterically with everyone else! This experience was one of many which I enjoyed over the course of my two weeks in Thailand. I would highly recommend GVI itself as a company to volunteer abroad with, as well as this program specifically, which I believe has enriched me and furthered my understanding of foreign cultures.

Global Leadership Adventures (GLA)

Global Leadership Adventures was by far one of the most amazing experiences of my life! I spent everyday working with elephants, something I thought I would never get the chance to. After interacting with such amazing and smart animals I truly gained an appreciation for the wild animals that roam the earth. Their personalities were incredible as they represented aspects that one would only expect to see in a human. The country itself is beautifully decorated with sacred temples at each corner of the road. Being able to immerse into Thai culture by visiting such temples was a great honor. Thailand was an incredible experience that left me to return home with all my expectations met. Thank you, GLA!

Global Leadership Adventures (GLA)

My trip to Costa Rica was truly an amazing experience. The staff were exceptional and I always felt safe. I did the 14 day animal rescue program so I was able to work with a lot of the strays from Costa Rica at a local no kill shelter. As much as we helped the dogs and their living conditions, we also had lots of fun! The staff and students made all of the service hours fly by. We were also able to experience a variety of other fun activities like zip lining, hot springs, seeing the waterfalls, coffee tours, and touring San Jose. Those are just some of the awesome things we were able to do. We also learned a lot of interesting facts about the Costa Rican community. The bonds you create with the students and staff are incredible and I can't wait to go back next summer! This trip has made me look at everything in a different way and it truly made me a better person. I recommend Global Leadership Adventures for any teenager who wants to be the change in the world, and wants to have lots of fun!
