Projects Abroad

I had the great opportunity to be as a volunteer in Cusco, Peru. I was part of a group of 10 volunteers that went together throu the company we work for. It has been one of the most greatful experience I'd have.
At the beginning, Projects Abroad assistant was essential, they gave us the information we need to have everything prepared and ready for the trip. Step by step, they'd help us with our doubts and gave us advice. We'd know what type of clothing we'd need, the weather conditions in that period of the year, the coinage, traditions, type of food, among others; so we'd bring with us the stuff we actually need during the trip.
We arrived at Cusco, Peru at early morning, and Projects Abroad staff was already waiting for us with our transportation ready, they took us with our host families with a quick city tour included. The houses we're in, were comfortable, clean and safe, families were very kind, they'd always try to help us with our basic needs and give us some recommendations about the town and places to know.
During our volunteer activities we had the chance to be in primary level schools, where we'd help the teachers with some projects, do some teaching of our country of origin and interchange ideas about our cultures; kids were very happy to know about us and the activities we did with them, they'd participate actively and had great attitude. At the end of the week, it was hard to say good bye to them. We also visited a special school, where we spend time with different groups of students and do some art activities, kids were very emotional and they received us with their open arms. We had the chance to visit a nursing home too, helped with kitchen and cleaning duties and chat and interact with elderly people; this was a very heartwarming experience, we really appreciated it.
At the end of each day, we'd get together with our friends of Projects Abroad to review our journey, prepare next day material requirements and do some feedback about our volunteer experience. Projects Abroad members were always ahead of us, by planning, preparing and coordinating every activity, they demostrated how profesional they are, and how much they are committed to their job. I personally have a great opinion of this organization and its people.
Therefore, I'd recommend you to consider a Projects Abroad volunteer program, since they have many options worldwide, in many varieties of áreas (care, sports, medicine, archeology, teaching and more); I encourage you to live a volunteer trip, it will be definitevly a one life time experience. Have fun!

Global Leadership Adventures (GLA)

This summer I went to China with a group of 24 students. Originally when searching for programs I found that none of them were even close to my price range as they were all too expensive. At first, I selected Global Leadership Adventures because of its affordable price and its service component. But it turned out to be so much more than that! GLA was an experience through which I learned to be more independent and confident. When out in the streets with other students we had to use our language skills to communicate which took a lot of brain power but also a lot of confidence. Making friends while on the China program was not hard at all. All the kids on my program were ambitious and they cared about making a difference. Since I found kids similar to me on the program it was really easy to make friends. Even though it's been a while since this summer we still have our group chat going strong and I even regularly meet up with two of the kids who live close to me. I definitely recommend GLA for other students because it really was a life changing experience for me and I think everyone should experience this great adventure!

The language aspect of this program could be greatly improved. The language classes were extremely informal and I don't feel like I really learned any new Mandarin.

International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ)

I was in Arusha, Tanzania for two weeks with IVHQ and was one of the best trips of my life. At first, I was hesitant going to Africa by myself, but as soon as I left the Kilimanjaro Airport, I was greeted by an energetic IVHQ staff member, who carried my bags, had a large water bottle and gave me information to read about my specific placement. He and the driver pointed out places along the way from the airport and from then on, I knew this was going to be amazing. My accommodation was great; there was plenty of space to unpack into, a large porch, common area, kitchen, etc. It was so much fun to come back from placement and hear about everyone's days, play games, listen to music or just sit outside and read.I also loved the social aspects of the program -- every Thursday night, everyone in the program comes together for a "social night" so you get to meet people from other accommodations; everyone is so passonate about their placement and it was great to be included in such a warm, fun, happy, loving community. The school that I worked with was incredible, and even though I was only there for two weeks, I felt like I could make a strong relationship with the teachers as well as the students. During my time I was able to go on a weekend safari and the guide IVHQ uses could not have been more amazing, never met anyone so kind who knew more about animals, culture and African ecosystems. I also feel like I got to know Arusha as a city, and was immersed in the culture. I felt safe the whole time I was there and everyone from Tanzania was so welcoming. Time flew by too quickly, it was hard to say goodbye, and I could not recommend this program more! Thank you IVHQ!!

Projects Abroad

Projects Abroad was so helpful throughout the entire process of my trip. They assured that I was comfortable with getting to my volunteer site and made sure I knew the area around where I was staying with my host family. They were always easy to get a hold of when needed and I felt very safe while I was abroad. On the first day, they helped the other volunteers and I get a bus pace, a cell phone, and any thing else we needed which I really appreciated.

Frontier

i Volunteered with frontier after finding them online as i wanted to do something exciting with my gap year, i found the frontier Tenerife whale and dolphin conservation trip and it looked amazing from the reviews so i booked it. upon arrival i was greeted at the airport by the frontier staff and some other volunteers, the house was alive with laughter, fun and people from all over the world getting to know each other, the boat trips were amazing as you got to see the short fin pilot whales out in the wild and they are so relaxed around the boats, you also get to see many different types of dolphins swimming along the side of the boat and jumping out the water showing off. them memories will stay with me forever as a mother and a calf swam right along side the boat and looked straight at me. other activity's include beach clean ups which were a lot more fun than they sound as you get to see the physical impact your having and how you as an individual are helping not only the community but also the environment as a whole. on your free days and time off after activity's you can go down to the local towns and go kayaking, snorkeling, climbing and exploring. i went snorkeling every singe day i was there as i just loved being in the warm water surrounded by marine life and its a great way to bond with new volunteers as you all share the same love for the sea life. i would 100% recommend this trip to anyone who wants to explore a little more of the world and its marine life, iv been back 4 months as of now and i still haven't stopped going on about my time out there and i do not think i ever will.
