I went on the Children of Africa 3 week trip in Ghana! There is so much to say! GLA gave me an opportunity I never thought I could have at this young of an age. I was able to make a difference in peoples lives, at the age of 16! Like anyone would be, I was nervous at first! I mean who wouldn't be, but as soon as i stepped foot into Ghana i was overcome with excitement! Me and the other students on my flight were welcomed right away at the gate by mentors from GLA! Throughout the first few days we were introduced to all our fellow students and our mentors we would be living with for the next 3 weeks! Then things really got started! I started brick making! And teaching! and going on excursions! it was beyond amazing! I fell in love with it all! The people who i lived with, that the first day i called strangers, I now called family. Everyday i got to meet new people, try new things, and learn new amazing things! Because of this trip, I am a better person, I try new things, and i view things with a different, more positive eye. I would not trade this trip for anything and because of this trip it made me realize i want to volunteer in my future more.

Last summer I went on GLA's Galapagos 2-week summer program. It was an amazing life-changing experience! During our time on the islands, we worked together to clear invasive species off areas of the islands so the endemic plant and animal species can reclaim their lost land. Through this trip I have learned the importance of environmental conservation and many different ways I can make an impact on the world. I highly recommend this program to any student looking to better the environment and themselves through challenging yet rewarding and fun community service work. This was truly a trip of a lifetime!

I went on the beachside service adventure program in Costa Rica this summer, and it was an amazing experience. I was assigned to a service project that involved helping a community build a bridge so the children's walk to school would be more than cut in half, as the river we helped build a bridge over swelled up in the rainy season. The trip changed my perspective, and I went without knowing anyone else, so it really pushed me out of my comfort zone. I got to play basketball with local teenagers, take dance lessons, go swimming in the ocean at sunset, make new friends, try to make costa Rican style art, visit an animal sanctuary, a natural hot springs, and so much more. Everyone on the staff was so kind, on one of the last nights they all shared personal stories about how they ended up volunteering abroad, and they were all so inspiring.

GLA has been a great experience for my daughter. She learned a lot about the Dominican Republic culture and the challenges the community faces there while having an opportunity to make a lot of new friends and enjoy the beautiful island. It was amazing to see how much she matured in a short time and how much her view of the world has broadened since that trip. We are already planning her next trip to Belize.
