Feeling like home is the best way to describe my stay at Askari. Askari, it’s been a pleasure to be part of your family. I will always remember all the experiences, the new knowledge and the people in Askari. I never experienced such a high level of happiness before for such a long period of time. My seven weeks here have been amazing. Every morning you wake up not knowing what’s going to happen, but knowing it’s going to be an unforgettable day. We had the opportunity to experience incredible sightings with the team. I learned more than I ever imagined: tracking animals, birding and capturing amazing pictures. Askari, thank you for everything. I will never forget you!

I went for a month to Pidwa Wilderness Reserve (the place of the Askari Wilderness Conservation Programme) last summer (August-September 2017) : it was truly the best experience of all my life. I really fell in love with the peaceful bush life...
If you love nature and animals and want to contribute to simplest and purest things in life, then just go !
Firstly, South Africa is such a beautiful country and people there are very nice.
Now more about the place itself : absolutely stunning ! It is more than cosy, Katie and Ed are such incredible people, passionate about their jobs and are such amazing teachers ! Besides, you will meet volunteers who share your passion from all over the world and this is really rewarding !
Just some advice : don't hesitate anymore, you will remember this place, this people and this whole experience forever... No words strong enough to describe it but again a huge thank you to both of you Ed and Katie, I'll never ever forget Askari...

Volunteering at Askari truly is an eye opening and life changing experience.

After studying biology at uni I spent a few years not really knowing which direction I wanted to take my life in. 3 months volunteering at Askari has changed that and re-ignited my passion for the natural world, inspiring me to return and complete a guiding course as soon as I am able.

Every day is a learning experience here and I couldn’t recommend Askari highly enough, anyone and everyone should take time out to experience the beauty of the African bush. It will not be forgotten or regretted.

It was a special honour to be able to experience Askari even if only for a brief slice of time. Two weeks isn’t long enough….
The thing that stands out most, aside from seeing some of the coolest creatures I have seen in my life, is the people: passionate and knowledgeable staff/guides and volunteers from all over the world who have come for the same reason – to experience the South African bush but more than that, to contribute to the restoration and conservation of it. That is what sets Askari apart from anything else I have done. That is what gives travel here a deeper significance. And the fact that we have over 17,000 hectares of wild space to ourselves is the best! There are no tourist crowds. No other game viewers full of people driving the same roads, blocking views…It is just us (whilst we are here) to appreciate, enjoy and help conserve. Wide open natural spaces full of serene beauty and magnificent creatures from the tiny termites with their monstrous mounds to the majestic lions and everything in between. And the deep red sunsets and sunrises are pretty spectacular too.
I love that anything can happen at any time and indeed it often does! You have to be ready and prepared or else you’ll miss it. Hope I can return someday…

Amazing to be part of such a wonderful group and programme. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The level of enthusiasm is unbeatable. Askari has been the most amazing trip and I have learnt so much. They really teach and show the importance of conservation. I am super excited knowing I’ll return next year. It was so incredible that I couldn’t leave without knowing when I would return. Katie and Ed – you guys are just incredible and I feel privileged to have spent time with you both, thank you for everything!"
